NOWRA accounting firm Booth Partners has been named the 2008 winner of the Shoalhaven City Council Workplace Partysafe initiative.

The firm was recognised for a creative initiative it used to ensure its employees were safe during and after their work Christmas party.

The council runs the Workplace Partysafe initiative every year to recognise businesses that provide strategies to ensure their staff can enjoy a Christmas event and still be safe on the roads.

Booth Partners took their community-minded spirit one step further when it decided to donate the $500 it won to the Mayor's Giving Tree for Christmas.

Shoalhaven City Mayor Paul Green said it was great to see so many businesses involved in the initiative that recognised staff as one of the most important aspects of a business.

Some of the party safe strategies Shoalhaven companies provided for staff and their families included: low and non-alcoholic drinks, the allocation of a sober nominated driver, provision of taxis or a minibus to and from the party site, invitations for families to sleep over - along with the provision of breakfast for those who did - and assurance that the people serving alcohol had Responsible Service of Alcohol training.

Highly commended businesses in this year's initiative included Raine and Horne Nowra, North Nowra Public School, Sinmark Air Conditioning, Ulladulla High School and Jayco Nowra.
